Seawall Repairs

Thorndale Beach North Condominiums, also known as the Bob Newhart Building, is a 16-story mid-century condominium located on the lakeshore. A seawall runs along the east and north sides of the property to protect the building from high tides. The seawall consists of a steel sheet piling foundation topped with a reinforced concrete wall, with large boulders lining the base of the beach-facing sides.

KGH developed and observed a repair project to address typical maintenance repairs at the seawall, including concrete and steel deterioration and water infiltration.

Seawall Repairs:

  • Concrete patching

  • Installation of supplemental steel reinforcement

  • Concrete crack injection

  • Concrete crack routing and sealing

  • Sealant replacement

  • Excavation and evaluation of the north portion of the wall’s foundation; after completing the necessary steel and concrete repairs, the excavation pit was refilled with beach sand and the wall was repainted
